Training & Development
The cost for each training session is detailed below. Classes are offered at no charge to Wolverine Power Cooperative members, including Cherryland Electric, Great Lakes Energy Cooperative, HomeWorks Tri-County Electric Cooperative, Midwest Energy & Communications, Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op, and Thumb Electric. Participants from other utilities are required to pay the designated fee.

2026 Continuing Education Training Opportunities
January 28, 2026
9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Cost: $100
Everyone is driving, hauling, and towing, but how much recognition do we give to this important job duty?
This course will cover weight restrictions, inspections, and enforcement. Hands-on load securement will be discussed and practiced in different load configurations.
February 17-19, 2026

This workshop combines classroom and hands-on learning, offering “real-world’ scenarios without the risk. Topics include the basics of single-phase and three-phase transformer connections and theory, including turn ratios, polarities, safe practices, calculations, sizing, and troubleshooting. Participants will work with energized mini transformers, experiencing fuse blows from incorrect wiring and troubleshooting on transformer banks. The session also covers motor rotation in three-phase systems and preventing voltage surges during switching.

This training focuses on recognizing and mitigating hazards specific to electrical substations. Participants new to this field will learn about various substation components, potential risks, and the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to ensure safety. Participants who have historically worked in or around substations will find this to be an important refresher.

This course will identify the importance of a strong incident investigation process. Learning what went wrong, why it happened, and what can be done to prevent the incident in the future is an important part of an effective safety management system. Students will learn investigation techniques, including how to perform a Root Cause Analysis (RCA). An effective incident analysis is the first step to being proactive within your organization. A failure to identify and address incident occurrences within your organization can seriously derail your safety process. When things happen, it is extremely important to identify the what, when, why, and how so that effective processes can be put in place to prevent a recurrence. If you have questions or need to update your investigation skills, this course is for you.
